Pat McAfee: A Major Inspiration to Me

Adam “Pacman” Jones has big plans for The Pacman Jones Show. As a former NFL player building a podcast, he couldn’t ask for a better mentor than Pat McAfee. The two, both former West Virginia Mountaineers, have developed a strong bond, despite McAfee arriving as a freshman the season after Jones left for the NFL. Jones has frequently appeared on The Pat McAfee Show.

Now hosting his own show streaming on BetOnline, Jones told SportsCasting.com that McAfee has been a crucial source of inspiration. “Pat has been a big inspiration to me,” Jones said. “I learned a lot from Pat, being able to pick his brain and sit in on certain meetings. Without him, I wouldn’t be where I’m at business-wise. I give him a lot of credit. I see this being pretty big, probably getting picked up by a big syndication this year. I’ve had a couple of talks with different platforms and offers, but nothing that has swayed me yet. But, yeah, it’s getting there.”

Check out a recent episode of The Pacman Jones Show to get a feel for its tone in the first minute:

Jones’ controversial antics as a player are well-documented. ESPN once described him as Pro Bowl-caliber on the field but noted he had been “a disaster off the field.” Even after retirement, Jones has made headlines for negative reasons, including a disorderly conduct arrest at an airport in 2023. However, he remains focused on his media career, reporting “crazy” numbers for his show in its first year, co-hosted by Evan Rosenblum, founder of TMZ Sports. “It’s fun, man. I’ve hosted a lot of shows and been a co-host of many,” Jones said. “I enjoy putting the rundown together and discussing topics that matter. I know about nearly all sports and can relate to whatever is happening, so I’m eager.”

Jones added, “This is my first year and my numbers have been crazy. Way more than I thought, with many more subscribers and interest due to different conversations, even breaking stories before everyone else.” This led Kyle Odegard from SportsCasting.com to draw a comparison, asking, “The Adam Schefter approach, huh?” to which Jones quipped, “Yeah, the black Adam Schefter.” This playful response seems to capture the essence of Pacman Jones.
