CFB Community Responds to Stunning Deion Sanders Controversy

Colorado recently celebrated the commitment of 2025 quarterback Julian Lewis, but not everything is as it seems. Colorado head coach Deion Sanders encountered this reality on Wednesday when the NCAA determined that he and the program improperly recruited Lewis. Consequently, the NCAA is set to impose sanctions on Colorado for ‘minor recruiting violations.’ According to a report by USA TODAY, “The Colorado athletic department decided to stop livestreaming its weekly coaches show with Deion Sanders and also removed two episodes of the show from YouTube last fall after the name of a prominent football recruit was mentioned on it in violation of NCAA rules.”

You can read their full report here. The report notes that “According to NCAA rules, schools generally may not publicize or comment on a recruit before officially signing that recruit.” This misstep means Sanders will face a reduction in the number of in-person visits he can conduct this spring, as the NCAA has cut four visits for the CU coach.

Earlier this winter, Sanders and the Buffaloes discovered Lewis would commit to CU on The Pat McAfee Show. While these violations are deemed minor, they still carry weight and could potentially follow Deion if he’s not cautious, especially given the NCAA’s history of imposing sanctions. Just consider the case of Jim Harbaugh. Sanders recently had his name mentioned in the Dallas Cowboys coaching search, but given recent events, it seems less likely he will leave Boulder anytime soon.

If the trajectory continues upward, Colorado may have their best season yet in 2025. The college football community has had much to say about this situation.
