What on earth is happening with the Jacksonville Jaguars? NFL insiders are providing mixed signals. The decision to part ways with general manager Trent Baalke has reportedly reopened the possibility for Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen to take the head coach position. On Thursday, Jordan Schultz from Fox Sports revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that Coen was interviewing with the Jaguars for a second time. However, later on, Schultz indicated that former New York Jets coach Robert Saleh had “just landed in Jacksonville for what was supposed to be an interview tomorrow with the #Jaguars.”

This post has since been deleted, which might be for the best. The situation only became more perplexing when both Michael Silver and Dianna Russini from The Athletic reported that Saleh had not actually flown to Jacksonville.
Robert Saleh did not, in fact, fly to Jacksonville today… as he waited for developments to unfold
— Michael Silver (@MikeSilver) January 24, 2025
Robert Saleh never left New Jersey for Jacksonville. He was planning on flying into Jacksonville for the interview but plans are fluid.

Russini later reported that “Jags’ ownership called him directly and explained they would allow him to choose the general manager and would pay him ‘Ben Johnson’ level money along with multiple years, per sources.” Meanwhile, Silver noted that he anticipated “the 49ers to rehire Robert Saleh as their defensive coordinator soon.” After this whirlwind of confusion and contradictory reports, we might finally be approaching some clarity.
