As Amazon and NBC assemble their rosters for NBA coverage, they are also monitoring potential talent beyond current media professionals. In his latest newsletter, CNBC’s Alex Sherman revealed that both networks are eyeing current NBA players who may retire after the 2024-25 season, including Chris Paul, Kevin Love, Draymond Green, and potentially Kyle Lowry for roles in their studio shows.
In recent years, Green and Paul have explored media opportunities; Green signed a multiyear contract with TNT Sports in 2022. While many expected Green to join Inside the NBA as a regular—possibly replacing Charles Barkley—that assumption changed when TNT lost its share of the NBA media rights for the 2025-26 season. Paul, at 39 years old, received positive feedback for his work with ESPN during last season’s playoffs. Although Love and Lowry haven’t pursued formal media roles, both are known for being media-friendly and are respected as longtime stars in the league.
Additionally, Sherman mentioned that networks are intrigued by the idea of featuring Carmelo Anthony, who has been retired for nearly three years. Front Office Sports’ Michael McCarthy first reported last month that Anthony is “talking to everybody” about potential studio and game analyst roles.
Sherman’s report highlights the ongoing efforts of Amazon and NBC to enhance their NBA coverage for the upcoming season. Amazon recently announced that its NBA studio show would feature Taylor Rooks, Dirk Nowitzki, and Blake Griffin. Meanwhile, after previously hiring Jamal Crawford as an analyst, NBC has officially named Mike Tirico as its lead NBA play-by-play announcer to strengthen its broadcast lineup.
