The Cleveland Browns are aiming for a more successful season next year after a tough campaign that secured them the number-two overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft. With this in mind, they are taking steps to improve their chances.
To avoid leaving anything to chance, the Browns fired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey at the end of the season. Dorsey took over play-calling from head coach Kevin Stefanski mid-season, but the change did not result in more victories. They have since brought in Tommy Rees as Dorsey’s replacement, creating some uncertainty about who will handle play-calling duties moving forward. However, Stefanski has clarified the situation.
“I’m going to call plays and I reserve the right to change my mind,” Stefanski stated during a press conference shared on Twitter by ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi. He further explained that while Rees will not be calling plays, he holds a high regard for the young coach’s talents.
“Really, this last year spent with Tommy solidified what I thought about him. We had an impressive pool of candidates for this job — some brilliant people that we truly enjoyed getting to know. But ultimately, I felt like Tommy was the right fit for this football team.”
It will be fascinating to see whether Stefanski can steer the Browns back on course or if his confidence will hinder Cleveland’s progress.
