Joe Davis Covers Dodgers’ Walk-Off Loss for Fox

Joe Davis is not only among the best young announcers in sports but is also one of the finest overall. He demonstrated this again on Saturday night while working the MLB on Fox, managing to maintain neutrality while calling a game involving the team for which he is the day job announcer. Davis stepped into the shoes of two legendary figures in two distinct roles: locally as the television play-by-play voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers, succeeding the iconic Vin Scully, and nationally as the lead play-by-play announcer for the MLB on Fox, taking over from Joe Buck and calling the World Series.

In these roles, it’s clear he has excelled. However, situations sometimes arise that test this balance, as occurred on Saturday night during the game between the Dodgers and the Texas Rangers, which Davis called for Fox Sports. The game concluded dramatically with the Rangers winning on a walk-off home run by slugger Adolis Garcia in the bottom of the ninth inning. Joe Davis deserves immense credit for delivering the call with the same enthusiasm he would bring to a local Dodgers broadcast.

This was an outstanding call that showcases Joe Davis’s professionalism, as he brought remarkable energy to a walk-off home run hit against the team he covers daily. Had he opted for the Hawk Harrelson silent treatment, it would likely have left a negative impression on a national audience.
