Reasons the Browns Should Choose Sanders Instead of Hunter in the Draft

The Cleveland Browns, an NFL franchise seemingly doomed to eternal failure, made a bold move by trading for former Houston Texans quarterback DeShaun Watson, securing him with the highest fully guaranteed contract in league history. Unfortunately, this gamble has backfired as Watson suffered a torn Achilles last year, followed by significant setbacks in his recovery, putting his status for next season in jeopardy. Prior to the injury, he was arguably the weakest starting quarterback in the league. Compounding this disappointment, Baker Mayfield, who was replaced by Watson, has flourished as a perennial All-Pro with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

As the Browns prepare for next week’s NFL draft, they hold the number two overall pick, and indications suggest they are likely to select former Colorado Buffaloes standout and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, known for his skills at both cornerback and wide receiver. However, this would be a misguided move.

Cleveland should focus on breaking its quarterback curse, especially with the Tennessee Titans expected to pick former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward first overall. This situation leaves Hunter’s former collegiate teammate, Shedeur Sanders, available for the Browns. Sanders presents an ideal solution for Cleveland; he has demonstrated his ability to rejuvenate teams at both Jackson State and Colorado, and he possesses a dynamic personality that can win over fans and restore goodwill in the city.

Although the Browns appear inclined to select Hunter, Sanders is undoubtedly the superior choice for the franchise.
