Is there anything Mike Tirico can’t do? He’s been a SportsCenter anchor, play-by-play man, Olympic host, event host, and much more in the sports world. Now, he can add morning show host to his resume as he’s filled in for Craig Melvin on NBC’s Today show while Melvin enjoys an Easter break with his family, including his wife, fellow former SportsCenter anchor Lindsay Czarniak.
While many might assume that this would be a downtime for Mike Tirico with football in its offseason and no Olympic duties in 2025, they would be mistaken. Besides guest hosting on Today alongside Savannah Guthrie, he recently called the Masters on radio. Here he is, participating in an Easter decorating segment with Martha Stewart, looking like he’s been part of the morning show routine for years.
So how have regular viewers of the Today show received Tirico as a guest host? As expected, he’s receiving rave reviews, with fans expressing hopes that he will appear on the show more frequently.
Can Mike Tirico always be on the Today Show?

So refreshing to see @miketirico on @TODAYshow
His primary gig is of course @NBCSports and @GolfChannel, and he’s doing a great job this morning. Def impressive.— TLea (@tleany) April 15, 2025

@miketirico is terrific guest hosting on the @TODAYshow. I just saw a video clip. He should be the co-anchor at @nbc @NBCNews. Mike is intelligent, endearing, has a great presence, connects well with the audience, and possesses the perfect voice for this role.

In recent years, the presence of sports figures on morning network shows has become common. Michael Strahan is a regular on Good Morning America, following Robin Roberts’ transition from ESPN SportsCenter anchor to ABC News. Nate Burleson is now co-hosting CBS Mornings, and Jim Nantz recently disclosed that he turned down an offer for the CBS morning show twenty years ago to remain in sports. Mike Tirico clearly has the talent to seamlessly transition into morning news whenever he wants. His schedule will become busier next season as he not only calls the NFL and hosts the Olympics but also becomes the lead play-by-play voice for the return of the NBA on NBC. Given his successful stint on Today, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him make another appearance at 30 Rock when his schedule allows.
