Never Enough Pass Rushers

The New York Giants are embarking on a new chapter after parting ways with Daniel Jones last season. This offseason, they signed former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson, and both are optimistic about being competitive. However, it’s a daunting challenge after their disappointing performance last season, which granted them the third overall pick in next week’s NFL draft. According to Pro Football Talk, the betting markets suggest the Giants and general manager Joe Schoen are leaning towards selecting the dynamic pass rusher, Abdul Carter, out of Penn State.

Schoen mentioned that the Giants still need to conduct their final medical evaluations for this class of prospects, yet he expressed confidence in Carter’s health following a meeting last week. He also noted that selecting a player for a position where the team is already strong should not be seen as an issue. “Everybody watched the Super Bowl, right? Philly rushed with how many, four the whole game? That’s one way to do it,” he said. He highlighted Carter’s unique skill set; having played off the ball for two years before excelling in his single season on the edge.

With Kayvon, Burns, and Dex already in the mix, Schoen emphasized the versatility Carter brings at just 21 years old. “He’s an exciting player to watch. Yeah, you can’t have enough pass rushers,” he concluded. While fans may lean towards the idea of drafting a young quarterback, Schoen’s arguments are compelling.
