The NFL draft is just over one week away, and teams that struggled last year are eager to find the stars that will reverse their fortunes. Yet, this year’s class is considered one of the weaker quarterback classes in recent memory. Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are seen by most analysts as the top quarterbacks available, but one name has emerged as the standout thrower according to one general manager.
“I spoke to a GM who I really trust and who is really good. He told me that the best pure thrower of the football in this draft is Tyler Shough,” ESPN’s Peter Schrager on an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. Fans have expressed their reactions to this surprising claim on social media, with one user stating, “People will never understand that it’s not what the guy did or didn’t do in college, it’s what you can get him to do in the pros. Guys WILL go higher than they’re mocked, and some other guys who’ve already shown everything in their bag will slide.”
In contrast, another fan countered, “Them pure throws were nowhere to be found against the ACC schools. This is ridiculously wild to even say lol.” Additionally, a third fan noted, “Zach Wilson also was the best thrower of the football I have seen in a decade. Relax y’all. There are too many factors that go into becoming a great NFL QB. Being a great thrower isn’t top of the list.”
It will be interesting to see where Shough ends up and what kind of career he carves out as a professional.
