Ravens Continue Negotiations for Derrick Henry’s Contract Extension

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh expressed optimism at the annual league meetings in Tampa regarding securing an extension for star running back Derrick Henry. Henry’s impactful performance last season significantly enhanced the offensive dynamics, particularly benefiting quarterback Lamar Jackson. However, as of now, no agreement has been reached, and the topic of Henry’s extension was revisited on Tuesday. Per Pro Football Talk, Henry is currently under a two-year contract worth $6 million in 2025, a deal he signed in 2024, which would be a bargain for the Ravens.

In his first season with the Ravens, Henry achieved impressive statistics with 1,921 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns, allowing Jackson to have his best passing season to date. Despite these accomplishments, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta appears to have a broader focus and does not seem anxious to expedite an extension for Henry. DeCosta remarked, “We have a lot of different balls in the air right now,” adding, “I’m not going to talk about what we’re doing, or what we’re not doing, behind the scenes business-wise with these guys.”

DeCosta also addressed uncertainties regarding star tight end Mark Andrews’ future with the organization, stating, “I never know what’s going to happen, and I would never want to say this or that. But I can tell you this: Mark Andrews is a warrior and he’s played his butt off for us. His competitiveness, talent, attitude, and leadership are immensely valued here; he’s a great player. We’re in the business of keeping as many great players as we can.”

Lamar Jackson and the Ravens are determined to reach the Super Bowl for the first time in Jackson’s career, but achieving this may require allocating resources to keep their standout players satisfied.
