Andrew McCutchen, a five-time All-Star and former National League MVP, is undoubtedly one of MLB’s most recognizable figures. However, during the broadcast of the game between his Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night, it appeared that at least one person at Apple TV+ was unaware of his identity.
In the bottom of the third inning, Pittsburgh’s Paul Skenes was interviewed from the dugout, highlighting the vital role McCutchen plays as a veteran presence on the team. “I grew up watching him,” Skenes reflected. “I remember his MVP year and the playoff years in Pittsburgh, where he was at the center of all that.” However, while Skenes spoke, the camera switched to another player in the dugout, who was definitely not McCutchen. Throughout the interview, the focus shifted back and forth, but McCutchen was notably absent from the frame.
