TNT to Broadcast ‘Inside the NBA’ Documentary Ahead of ESPN Transition

The 30-plus-year run of Inside the NBA is coming to an end on TNT, and the network is squeezing every moment from it before the show transitions to ESPN next season. This season has seen a strange atmosphere surrounding Inside the NBA, with personalities like Charles Barkley joking about losing their jobs as WBD Sports lost NBA rights in the league’s next television contracts. In a surprising turn, ESPN struck a deal with TNT Sports to license Inside the NBA, ensuring it remains a marquee studio show for select games on the Disney-owned network next season.

Despite this, TNT has treated the final season as if it’s concluding, complete with a “gone fishing” segment during the NBA All-Star Game, and they recently teased a behind-the-scenes documentary titled Going Inside, set to release in May.

Currently, no specific details about the documentary have been released, aside from a teaser video, raising questions about its length and whether it will be a full-length documentary or more compact for social media. While the announcement highlights the final season of the NBA on TNT, it primarily features the Inside the NBA crew, who will also be on air at ESPN next year in their entirety. Although it may seem confusing for fans to see the same Inside the NBA they have always loved on a different network, it’s likely that this effort serves as TNT’s internal grieving process for losing the NBA and transitioning a pivotal franchise to another network.
