What will Sam Rosen miss the most in retirement? On Wednesday night, he addressed this question posed by Henrik Lundqvist, with whom he has shared many interactions over the years. Before becoming a studio analyst, Lundqvist had a remarkable career as a goalie for the New York Rangers, spending significant time alongside Rosen, the legendary announcer set to retire at the season’s end.
Before the game between the Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers, Lundqvist, along with his NHL on TNT co-hosts, interviewed Rosen, expressing his admiration: “I just want to say it was an absolute pleasure, as a player, to be around you throughout my entire career. To see you on the team plane, to see you before every morning skate, talking about the game, about life. Thanks for being such a professional.” He then asked, “After 40 years of doing this and walking away from the game, what will you miss the most?”

Rosen has received heartfelt tributes from both past and present Rangers players, as well as fellow announcers, discussing many of the aspects he will miss most. He mentioned, “There’s a lot to miss, Hank. I think I’ll start with the players and the relationships we’ve built over the years. Just as you said — I love going into the locker room, engaging with the players — the stories they have are incredible.” Rosen also emphasized that despite the ups and downs, he has consistently enjoyed watching the games, stating, “I’ll miss the game. Each night brings excitement; I look forward to every game, regardless of the season’s challenges, anticipating the moment the puck drops to witness the greatest players in the world.”
