The New England Patriots are aiming to return to their storied dynasty following the departure of Tom Brady, who won six Super Bowls alongside future hall-of-fame head coach Bill Belichick. The 2024 season marked the first time since the turn of the century without either Brady or Belichick, and unfortunately, the Patriots experienced far less success than anticipated, finishing the season 4-13 and missing the playoffs.
In a bid to revitalize their winning tradition, reports from a prominent NFL insider suggest the Patriots are set to bring back a familiar face from their championship days. “Throwback: The (Patriots) are expected to hire Josh McDaniels as their offensive coordinator, in his third stint in this role. The favorite all along, he interviewed today and solidified his standing. Now, he’ll join Mike Vrabel’s staff and work with Drake Maye,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Tuesday.

Fans have taken to social media to express their reactions to the reunion. “Too bad. Hoping for better, but Kraft loves friendly faces,” one fan tweeted. Another said, “This seems to be the best spot for Josh. Not sure why he could not translate his success here to success elsewhere, unless it was not having Tom Brady as his QB.” A different fan remarked, “The only role he’s ever been successful in. Rookie Mac Jones had 3,800 yards, 22 touchdowns, and a 92.5 rating in their one season together.” Some fans felt optimistic, with one stating, “Pats are quietly putting together a nice team… 1 or 2 more years and they are going to be a playoff team,” while another added, “As a lifelong Patriots fan, this is the PERFECT hire! He will hold guys accountable and is perfect for Maye. Many Super Bowls are in our future again.”
It’ll be interesting to see if McDaniels can replicate his previous success.
