Lane Kiffin Takes a Savage Jab at South Carolina and Its Media

Lane Kiffin has a love for the transfer portal that rivals his penchant for trolling—almost. As the most terminally online coach in college football, and perhaps in all sports, Kiffin has recently showcased this characteristic by lobbying for his Rebels to enter the College Football Playoff, despite a disappointing loss to a 4-8 Kentucky team at home.

Yet, what Kiffin excels at even more than navigating player transfers is his skilled art of shitposting. Over the past months, he’s been on a roll, exemplified when he light-heartedly mocked former South Carolina wide receiver Juice Wells, who had been teasing his old coach, Shane Beamer. Kiffin couldn’t resist piling on after Wells publicly clowned on Beamer, who had issued a thinly veiled critique of Wells regarding concerns over South Carolina’s talent and quarterback situation. Kiffin’s response? A gleeful tweet filled with emojis and mockery.

This is quintessential Lane Kiffin, and he didn’t stop there. The Rebels secured a commitment from Penn State wide receiver Harrison Wallace III, successfully outmaneuvering South Carolina in the process, with impeccable timing. Wallace committed to Ole Miss even before visiting Columbia for a scheduled meeting with the Gamecocks.

What transformed this from ordinary recruiting news into a quintessential Kiffin moment was his social media strategy. Just an hour before Wallace announced his commitment to Ole Miss, Kiffin tweeted an article from a South Carolina outlet, Garnet & Cocky, that reported Wallace was planning to visit the Gamecocks.

Just an hour later, Wallace was officially a Rebel. For Kiffin, this was not merely a victory in recruiting; he simultaneously trolled the Gamecocks while taking a sly jab at South Carolina’s media.
