We’re now several days into President Donald Trump’s newly announced tariff policies, which are causing significant turmoil in the stock market, leaving only his most fervent supporters standing by him. One notable figure who has recently distanced himself from Trump on this issue is Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who has been a vocal supporter in the past but is now criticizing the president over the stock market crash and last month’s accidental leaks of military plans to the media.
On Monday, Portnoy expressed his frustrations during his day trading livestream, targeting several right-wing media figures for what he perceives as hypocrisy. He stated, “Clay Travis, Will Cain, they’re like ‘just don’t look at your 401k. Since when do people care about the stock market?’ That’s bullshit. That’s fucking bullshit.” He further criticized supporters of Trump who ignore his faults, saying, “I would rather people on the right, who support Trump no matter what he does, to call a spade a spade.”

Portnoy’s remarks highlight a long-standing issue in media hypocrisy. Were a Democratic administration to preside over such a stock market crash, right-wing outlets would undoubtedly criticize every policy related to it. Yet, it is significant that Portnoy, who frequently appears on conservative media shows like Varney, is willing to confront the inconsistencies within that sphere.
