The Detroit Lions were arguably the most dominant team in the NFL during the regular season. Despite enduring a seemingly insurmountable number of injuries on the defensive side, Detroit concluded the year with an impressive 15-2 record, securing the number one overall seed in the NFC. They appeared poised for a deep playoff run after enjoying the highly coveted first-round bye. Unfortunately, fate had other plans.
In a disappointing playoff performance, Detroit lost 45-31 to the Washington Commanders. To further compound their misfortune, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson left the organization, taking the head coach position with the Chicago Bears just two days after the loss. Now, it seems the Lions face the prospect of losing another key coach, slightly less than a day later.
“The Patriots are targeting Lions defensive line coach Terrell Williams to be their new defensive coordinator under Mike Vrabel, sources tell CBS Sports and 247 Sports. Before joining Detroit, Williams served as Vrabel’s defensive line coach and assistant head coach with the Titans,” reported Matt Zenitz on Tuesday.

Fans have shared their reactions to the news on social media. One fan lamented, “The price of success. Detroit is getting gutted.” Another questioned, “Will Detroit offer him the Defensive Coordinator position? And would New England be his first choice?” Additionally, one fan suggested, “Would be a fantastic hire. If I were Dan Campbell, I would strongly consider promoting him to DC when Glenn leaves.” It remains to be seen how Detroit plans to manage staff retention throughout the offseason.
