The Dallas Cowboys are seeking a new coaching staff after parting ways with former head coach Mike McCarthy, a decision that shocked many in the NFL. The team is now exploring options for their next leader and has opted to consider an internal candidate, who was part of last season’s staff.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, “The (Cowboys) are expected to interview their own OC Brian Schottenheimer for their vacant head coaching job, per me and (Jane Slater). Well-respected in the building, Schottenheimer has been an OC for more than a decade and presents an intriguing option to take the next step.”

Fans took to social media to express their opinions on the development, with one user commenting, “Cowboys keep interviewing candidates that have no real interest anywhere else, but in Dallas.” Another fan remarked, “Man’s been an OC for more than a decade and finished outside the top 20 of the league in points scored as many times as he’s finished inside the top 12.” Another noted, “We literally do not care about winning games & championship hardware if we make this move. This would be one of the laziest hires Dallas has ever made.”
Questions were raised as another fan asked, “Remind me how the Cowboys did on offense this year? Also remind me who actually called plays for the Cowboys? The guy didn’t even call the plays for a weak offense and he’s now being considered for the head coaching job?” Furthermore, another added, “lol such an unserious organization. Do they even care about building a winning organization? Always hiring guys that coached for them or played for them. It hasn’t worked in 30 years. Maybe it’s time to change philosophy a bit. Embarrassing.”
Ultimately, it will be intriguing to see what decision team owner and general manager Jerry Jones makes.
