Pistons Announcer George Blaha Takes a Jibe at Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had another impressive performance on Wednesday night, scoring 33 points as the Oklahoma City Thunder secured their 11th consecutive victory against the Detroit Pistons. Despite his stellar night, veteran announcer George Blaha was not convinced of Gilgeous-Alexander’s standing as the best player in the league.

As SGA approached the free-throw line in the final moments of the game, Blaha remarked that while he might be the MVP front-runner, it doesn’t make him the best player overall. “A measly three assists for SGA and 10/26 shooting,” Blaha criticized. “He may be the MVP, but he’s not the best player in the world. The Joker is the best player in the world. He had a 61-point triple-double last night and had more than three assists.”

Nikola Jokić’s remarkable 61-point triple-double on Tuesday further solidified his reputation as one of the NBA’s greatest players. Yet, the ongoing MVP debate—“The Best Player” versus “The Player Who is Most Valuable to Their Team”—leans in favor of Gilgeous-Alexander this season, as it’s hard to visualize the Thunder’s success without him. Blaha’s comments, however, drew mixed reactions, with fans criticizing and supporting his remarks on social media.
