Joe Buck hasn’t lost his touch calling MLB action. The veteran announcer returned to the airwaves for the New York Yankees’ Opening Day matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers, a nostalgic experience for many fans.
Buck, who has been the voice of MLB on Fox, called 23 World Series and 21 All-Star Games for that network before transitioning to ESPN as the voice of Monday Night Football in 2022. While he did team up with Chip Caray on Bally Sports Midwest in 2024, he had been absent from MLB broadcasts for a considerable time. However, on Thursday, Buck rejoined the game, working alongside Brewers broadcaster Bill Schroeder and Joe Girardi from the Yankees’ YES Network.

Before the game commenced, Buck delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late Bob Uecker, accompanied by a video presentation. Bill Schroeder remarked, “No one loved the game, nobody loved the Brewers, nobody loved Milwaukee more than Bob Uecker.”

It didn’t take long for Buck to make his mark during the live broadcast. In the bottom of the first inning, Yankees catcher Austin Wells hit a powerful home run into the stands. Buck instinctively used his signature call (“back at the wall!”) and added “See ya!” as a nod to longtime Yankees announcer Michael Kay, who had expressed disappointment for missing the game due to ESPN’s exclusive rights.

It was. He told @RealMichaelKay he would use that call if a Yankee homered during his excellent radio spot on @880ESPNNewYork yesterday!

Ultimately, the Yankees claimed a 4-2 victory, and it’s no surprise that fans and sports media rejoiced at Buck’s return to the microphone.

Good to hear Joe Buck back calling baseball even if it’s only for #OpeningDay & doing it at Yankee Stadium
Good job by ESPN to make this happen #MILvsNYY https://t.co/eKgr58Apw1
