As Donald Trump toured the podcast landscape in anticipation of the 2024 presidential election, he made appearances on shows like Bussin’ With The Boys, Theo Von, and Joe Rogan. However, one notable absence from his media journey was Above the Rim with Dwight Howard. On Wednesday, Front Office Sports’ Ryan Glasspiegel reported that Howard, along with former NBA stars D’Angelo Russell, Penny Hardaway, and Victor Oladipo, is transitioning his independent podcast to Blue Wire. Notably, Howard was the only one of the group to engage with FOS, and his YouTube channel has already garnered over 207,000 subscribers.
When asked about his dream podcast guest, Howard named none other than Trump. “I want to talk to Donald Trump,” @DwightHoward reveals to FOS.

With an increasing number of athletes-turned-podcasters exploring political topics, Awful Announcing’s Brendon Kleen recently pondered whether they genuinely provide significant insights. If Howard manages to secure an interview with Trump, he seems poised to engage in a meaningful dialogue. He shared, “I just like to have conversations with people just to see where their spirit and their energy lies. A lot of times, when we see people online or in the media, the persona they present can differ from their true selves off-camera.”
Howard elaborated on his desire to delve into Trump’s childhood and the complexities of the presidency. “I don’t think people understand the immense challenges of being president while trying to uphold your morals. It’s like being a king in your own land—responsible for many, often putting your feelings aside in decision-making,” he explained.
While Howard could face backlash similar to what Cam Newton encountered for his controversial interview with Howard’s ex, he wouldn’t be the first former NBA player to host a prominent political figure. In 2024, hosts of All the Smoke, Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, successfully interviewed then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
Howard might get his opportunity, but it remains to be seen if Trump would accept the invitation.
