The Dallas Cowboys are currently searching for their next head coach to revitalize an organization craving success in the NFC. Ironically, they may have already had the right candidate within their ranks and let him slip away. Following the recent Divisional Round matchups, Cowboys insider Ed Werder pointed out that the upcoming NFC Championship game will feature two former Cowboys assistants who moved on to larger roles.
Former Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore now serves as the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, while first-year Commanders head coach Dan Quinn was the defensive coordinator for the Cowboys last season.
While Jerry Jones endures the process of hiring Mike McCarthy’s replacement as head coach of the #Cowboys, two recent Dallas coordinators will be calling plays in the NFC Championship Game.

The Cowboys have already interviewed Moore for their head coaching vacancy, suggesting they might have another opportunity to reinstate him. Moreover, the trend of former Cowboys assistants succeeding elsewhere extends beyond just Moore and Quinn. According to Cowboys beat reporter Bobby Belt, seven former Dallas assistants from the 2022 or 2023 seasons will be involved in either the NFC or AFC Championship games.

This trend has not gone unnoticed by Cowboys fans, who perceive it as evidence that Jerry Jones may struggle to accurately assess coaching talent. One fan humorously remarked, “We can sure pick em’ in Dallas,” while another noted, “Lookin more and more like it’s the Jones family is a huge issue.”

As the Cowboys move forward, fans hope the organization will finally bring in a head coach capable of restoring the team’s former glory. However, given the franchise’s track record, such an outcome feels uncertain at best.
