Former United States President Donald Trump, a passionate golfer with countless hours spent at his various golf courses, hinted at a potential retirement from competitive play this week. Over the weekend, he took to Truth Social to announce his victory in the Golf Club Championship at Trump International Golf Club in Florida, while also suggesting that this might be his final participation in the competition.
“I just won the Golf Club Championship, probably my last, at Trump International Golf Club, in Palm Beach County, Florida. Such a great honor! The Awards dinner is tonight, at the Club. I want to thank the wonderful Golf Staff, and all of the many fantastic golfers, that participated in the event. Such fun!” Trump shared in his post.
While it’s unclear why Trump indicated this could be his last championship, at 78 years old, his physical condition likely influenced his decision. Even if he scales back on competitive play, it’s doubtful he will completely step away from golf, given that he owns 16 courses worldwide, including 12 in the U.S., two in Scotland, one in Ireland, and one in the UAE. Furthermore, Trump has been actively working to unify professional golf, facilitating discussions between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, and even hosted a meeting at the White House last month between the rival organizations.
