Adrian Wojnarowski may be auctioning off the old phones that carried some of the biggest NBA news of the decade, but he has no desire to watch from the sidelines. Now the general manager of St. Bonaventure’s men’s basketball team, Woj has left behind the world of scoops and sources, which he referred to post-retirement as little more than “vapor.
The blockbuster trade that sent Luka Dončić and Anthony Davis to new teams? Just more vapor for him. While Shams Charania’s early morning announcement made waves throughout the NBA, for Woj, that life is a closed chapter—not due to a lack of recognition or financial benefit, but simply because he wanted to leave it behind. He discovered the details of the Los Angeles Lakers-Dallas Mavericks trading event like everyone else—at a distance. And then? He went to bed.
“I looked, I saw it, I shut my phone off and went to sleep.”
The Luka-A.D. trade was just a blip in former NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski’s (@wojespn) notifications 🤯

In the ensuing hours, fans joked about Woj’s former instincts resurfacing, comparing his retired phone to the Green Goblin mask calling out to Norman Osborn. However, the truth could not be further from that notion. “I was going to bed. Got a couple of text messages from a couple of people in the NBA,” Wojnarowski shared with former sports business reporter Darren Rovell. “I shut my phone off, and I went to sleep. My focus was on preparing for a big recruiting visit. I’ve not spent much time thinking about it.”
While Woj acknowledges the significance of the trade and its impact on the NBA landscape, he has no interest in the behind-the-scenes drama. He resembles a retired hero who sees the Bat-Signal yet opts to remain uninvolved. “I don’t know the reasons [for the trade],” he stated. “Haven’t asked anybody. I was just focused on the job I have now. There will be other major trades and free agent signings, and I’ll be concentrated on my responsibilities.”
In a different life, Woj was the one delivering news that shook the league to its core. But being an NBA insider is now somebody else’s concern.
