The Chicago Bears made a roster move on Friday as the team prepares for free agency, parting ways with veteran defensive end DeMarcus Walker after he spent the last two seasons in the Windy City. This decision came alongside the release of veteran tight end Gerald Everett.

Despite the release, Walker is likely to attract interest from teams seeking defensive line depth. Throughout his nine-year career, he has played for four different teams, with the Bears being his first in the NFC; prior to Chicago, he was with the Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, and Tennessee Titans. In total, Walker has recorded 23.0 sacks and 144 tackles.
As the Bears strive to improve this season, they have hired Ben Johnson as their new head coach, following his success with the rival Detroit Lions. Chicago’s Caleb Williams presents a promising quarterback prospect, and Johnson aims to maximize his potential with a talented supporting cast that includes former first-round pick Rome Odunze, D.J. Moore, and Keenan Allen.
Chicago may look for EDGE help in the upcoming NFL Draft as they plan to fill the gap left by veteran Walker.
