The Jacksonville Jaguars have appointed a new general manager, James Gladstone, as announced on Friday. As the team continues to strive for improvement, they have undergone significant changes in their front office. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the news on Gladstone’s hire on Friday afternoon, stating, “The Jaguars are hiring James Gladstone as their general manager.”

Historically, Jacksonville has struggled to find its place among the top franchises in the NFL. However, this wasn’t always the case. Upon their arrival in the mid-90s, the Jaguars quickly found success, famously eliminating John Elway and the Denver Broncos in just their second season. In 1999, they boasted an impressive 14-2 record, suffering all three losses to the Tennessee Titans, who ultimately reached the Super Bowl that year.
Since making it to the AFC Championship Game in the 2017 season, the Jaguars have seen a decline, particularly since 2011 when they started fielding a less competitive team. This is quite unusual in the NFL, known for its unpredictability, yet the Jaguars have managed to remain at the bottom. Thus, they are hopeful that Gladstone can help reverse this trend, although with current trajectories, it’s uncertain if that will come to fruition.
