Detroit Pistons announcer Greg Kelser expressed his disapproval of Grayson Allen’s style of play during Saturday’s game against the Phoenix Suns. In the third quarter, while being guarded by Marcus Sasser, Allen dribbled past midcourt when Sasser fell to the ground. The replay revealed that Allen’s right elbow struck Sasser in the face as he was maneuvering the ball with his left hand.
“And of course, Grayson Allen, right there,” Kelser remarked upon witnessing the play. Play-by-play announcer George Blaha noted, “That could have been an intentional elbow.” Kelser added, “Listen. He is involved in just far too many of these situations, even dating back to his Duke days. Remember, he was involved when Caruso got his wrist broken; Allen was in the play.” This incident referenced occurred in 2012 when Alex Caruso, then with the Chicago Bulls, was injured due to a Flagrant 2 called against Allen.
Blaha suggested that Allen might face another Flagrant 2, saying, “We could see Grayson Allen hit the locker room after this one” once it was announced that the elbow incident would be reviewed. Ultimately, though, Allen was charged with a Flagrant 1, and during the review, Kelser continued to voice his thoughts on Allen’s actions.
“You know, I’m gonna just say it like it is,” Kelser stated. “He’s fortunate he’s playing in this era with these type of shenanigans. It just happens far too often for you to feel like it was unintentional.”

Blaha then posed a question: “You’re saying guys would have decided, ‘Hey, it’s time for me to take something out on him in return?’” to which Kelser responded, “Absolutely. That’s exactly what I’m saying.” Shortly before the review results were revealed, Kelser made another pertinent point regarding Allen, saying, “You know, they talk about the Warriors’ Draymond Green and his past histories; he’s proven a resume of that, too.”
