The UConn Huskies women’s basketball team made history on Sunday by ending the South Carolina Gamecocks’ impressive 71-game home win streak. UConn star Paige Bueckers also reached a significant milestone during the game, moving to No. 11 on UConn’s all-time scoring list, surpassing none other than the game’s commentator for ESPN, UConn legend Rebecca Lobo.
Lobo was on the call with Ryan Ruocco, who couldn’t resist poking fun at her as Bueckers made the shot that pushed her past Lobo on the scoring list. Ruocco lightheartedly remarked, “Sorry, partner! Paige Bueckers just blowin’ by ya!” while a graphic highlighted Bueckers’ accomplishment.

Lobo, laughing, responded, “I made the list, Ryan! Congratulations to Paige Bueckers.” The Huskies showcased a vintage performance, defeating the defending national champions 87-58. While such results were typical during Lobo’s era, UConn has been in South Carolina’s shadow in recent seasons. This victory signals a possible shift in momentum.
As Bueckers continues her career at Storrs, she is expected to climb the scoring list further; however, she still has a way to go to catch Lobo in other statistics, including leading the 1995 Huskies to an undefeated national title and securing nearly every player of the year award.
