Tom Brady has now acquired an ownership stake in a professional cricket league—because, why not?
Front Office Sports reported Saturday that Brady is now an owner of the Birmingham Phoenix, a team in The Hundred, a league established four years ago by the England and Wales Cricket Board. His exact stake remains undisclosed, but he is an investor in Knighthead Capital Management, which made a bid of £40 million (roughly $50.4 million) for the Phoenix.
Having earned millions during his playing career from both salary and endorsements, Brady is now enjoying retirement income from a 10-year, $375 million contract to serve as Fox Sports’ top game analyst. This financial success allows him ample disposable income for investments. In recent years, he has expanded his portfolio to include ownership stakes in various professional sports teams, with his most prominent being a minority ownership of the Las Vegas Raiders, which has led to questions about how he will manage this alongside his Fox Sports responsibilities.
Additionally, the legendary quarterback holds a minority stake of approximately 3.3% in Birmingham City F.C., a Major League Pickleball team, and is also a minority owner of the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces, with Raiders owner Mark Davis being the majority owner of the Aces.
There is significant interest from notable investors in The Hundred. As reported by Front Office Sports, high-profile CEOs such as Sundar Pichai (Google), Satya Nadella (Microsoft), and Shantanu Narayen (Adobe) are also making substantial investments in the league.
