Desmond Howard’s 2024 College GameDay season is one he’d likely prefer to forget. After facing trolling from a team, a conference, and now a Broyles Award winner, the former Michigan Wolverines star’s game-picking skills have come under justified scrutiny. Howard was baffled when GameDay highlighted Arizona State and Kansas State—both 7-2 teams at the time—and even more perplexed by the hype surrounding Notre Dame this past season. Despite the Fighting Irish’s 14 wins, including a National Championship loss to Ohio State, Howard managed to pick against them on six occasions.
Now, Notre Dame fans aren’t exactly pleased with the 1991 Heisman Trophy Winner, as seen below, providing extra fuel for both them and Al Golden this past season.

Golden didn’t hold back either. Although the 2024 Broyles Award winner has since taken the defensive coordinator position with the Cincinnati Bengals, the same role he held at Notre Dame, he couldn’t resist delivering a final jab at Howard’s expense. “And Des, thank you for picking against us six times this year,” Golden remarked. “We won 14 games, and he picked against us six times. It’s unbelievable.”

This past season was indeed remarkable for College GameDay, which set viewership records during the inaugural season of the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, welcoming Nick Saban into the fold as well. As for Howard, his Notre Dame picks certainly won’t make the highlight reel, and neither might his Ryan Day takes.
