The Ohio State Buckeyes received some encouraging news on Wednesday. Running back Sam Williams-Dixon, who had entered the NCAA transfer portal, decided to withdraw his name and remain in Columbus. A month after exploring other opportunities, Williams-Dixon chose to stay with the team, as reported by On3’s Pete Nakos.
“Ohio State running back Sam Williams-Dixon has withdrawn from the transfer portal,” Nakos wrote on X.
Ohio State has a rich history as one of the top college football programs in the nation, particularly for running backs. The team saw Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson both rush for over 1,000 yards, marking them as a historic duo. Legends such as Beanie Wells, Eddie George, Ezekiel Elliott, and two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin have made their mark in Columbus. In 2024, Ohio State ran Henderson and Judkins to a National Championship victory, marking their first title since 2014 and culminating in a spectacular inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff run, defeating Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame along the way.
The Buckeyes are poised to continue their legacy as one of the nation’s elite programs and a prime destination for running backs. Fans can look forward to their 2025 season opener against Texas in a Cotton Bowl rematch in Columbus, which promises to be a festive day complete with a potential banner-raising and championship celebrations.
