Phil Simms Strongly Refutes Accusations of Hotboxing Jim Nantz with a Fart

Phil Simms is vehemently denying one of the most notorious alleged farts in NFL history, a fart that almost forced Jim Nantz to exit the CBS broadcast booth. It’s been over eight years since this infamous incident during the 2017 AFC Wild Card game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins, as well as eight years since CBS replaced Simms with Tony Romo in the booth. Simms joined WFAN morning hosts Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti this week, maintaining that he did not waft his own fart toward Nantz.

During the game, Simms amusingly waved his hand toward Nantz, leading the longtime CBS play-by-play voice to leave the camera shot temporarily. “I think it’s warmed up though, Jim,” Simms said with a grin after the waft. “Just to talk about the atmosphere of the game, what do you think? Are you warmer now than you were earlier in the game?” “I’m fine,” Nantz replied from a distance, “I’m worried about you.” WFAN replayed the incident for Simms, adding a fake fart noise, but the former New York Giants quarterback and CBS analyst quickly dismissed any accusations regarding the odor’s origin.

“Are you denying that ever happened?” Giannotti pressed. “You didn’t fart? You didn’t box in Jim Nantz with your farts?” Simms maintained it wasn’t him, mentioning that if there was a fart, it could have originated from someone else in the booth, like Nantz’s spotter or stats person. However, Giannotti wasn’t convinced, adding, “Jim says, ‘I’m worried about you,’ meaning it came out of your ass.” “I’m telling you, I didn’t do it,” Simms insisted, offering to own up to it and swearing on his children’s heads. “What else do you want me to do? I’m telling you, I didn’t do it.”

Phil Simms would go on to call two more games alongside Nantz before CBS opted to make Romo their lead NFL analyst. Nearly a decade later, Simms continues to assert his innocence regarding the alleged fart, which coincided with the conclusion of his renowned career as a game analyst that included calling eight Super Bowls. We are still waiting for Nantz’s account of the supposed incident.
