Patrick Mahomes Dismissed from GOAT Debate After Disastrous Super Bowl Performance

Following Super Bowl LIX, Stephen A. Smith made it clear: Patrick Mahomes is no longer in the ‘Greatest of All-Time’ discussion. The Chiefs appeared disoriented at times during their match against the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans, who executed a formidable defensive strategy that effectively contained the multi-time MVP and his team.

As Mahomes and the Chiefs sought solutions in the aftermath, Smith expressed his strong views on the quarterback’s dismal performance. “It’s over,” he declared succinctly on the debate. “It’s officially over. I’m not saying there’s nothing you can do,” he added, as reported by On3. “Let’s look at the stats: in the Super Bowl, Mahomes holds a 3-2 record with a 65 percent completion rate, averaging 265 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions, resulting in a passer rating of 86.9—even with three Super Bowl MVPs to his name.”

Smith went on to draw comparisons with his contemporaries, emphasizing Tom Brady’s impressive record of 7-3 and five Super Bowl MVPs. He also highlighted Joe Montana, reminding listeners of the quarterback’s perfect 4-0 Super Bowl record, with a 68 percent completion rate, 285 passing yards (on average), 11 touchdowns, and no interceptions, alongside three Super Bowl MVP awards. “After this Super Bowl, we must include Montana back into the discussion,” Smith asserted, adjusting the conversation around Mahomes, Brady, and Montana, with Montana re-entering the spotlight.

These statements from Smith were undeniably bold, especially since many had praised the Chiefs superstar leading up to the game; he had indeed earned that acclaim. However, reality sets in after a game doesn’t go as expected. While Mahomes’ legacy isn’t wholly in question, it appears he may be facing a ‘Super Bowl problem.’
