Is Kansas City Chiefs fatigue a real phenomenon? It depends on who you ask. We’ve previously argued that the Chiefs’ Dynasty is beneficial for the National Football League, but it doesn’t mean fans aren’t growing tired of watching Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid dominate the league.
Andrew Perloff, for example, finds it perplexing that neutral fans are weary of the Chiefs, yet this “fatigue” is increasingly acknowledged as a real concern. Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo has recognized it, yet others in sports media have made efforts to minimize the idea that Kansas City monopolizes headlines.
Alex Smith is one of those who downplays this notion. However, it’s important to remember that he played under Reid, mentored Mahomes, and hosted games at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

“For me, listen, I hear about Chiefs fatigue – I don’t get it,” Smith stated. “Don’t be sick of this. This is never going to happen again. The modern rules of football, the salary cap, and league regulations are all designed to prevent this from occurring. They aim for more parity — and we have it. Just look at the AFC and the quarterbacks eager to reach the Super Bowl. This is unprecedented and incredibly special. We’ll know soon if they actually achieve it, but again, don’t tire of this.”
Nate Burleson of NFL on CBS echoed this perspective, encouraging fans to shun the narrative that they’re fed up with the Chiefs. It’s not only former Chiefs players sharing this view; while Smith’s outlook may be somewhat biased, the rarity of what we’re witnessing is hard to dismiss.
