The Seattle Seahawks have completed their first season under new head coach Mike Macdonald, and as the team gears up for the next season, it appears they will continue with Geno Smith as their quarterback. During a recent press conference, Macdonald emphasized that Smith will lead the team moving forward, expressing confidence in his ability to secure a Super Bowl victory.
“I don’t understand the conversation,” Macdonald stated according to Pro Football Talk. “It’s pretty obvious this guy is a heck of a quarterback. He’s our quarterback. We love him. Can’t wait to go to work with him.” While it remains uncertain if this will lead to a contract extension for Smith, Macdonald did mention ongoing discussions regarding his contract.
“We’ve had a lot of non-football conversations — to keep it legal — over the last month or so,” Macdonald noted. “And I know he’s really excited about Klint taking over. This guy, yeah, he’s a great player, man. And we can win a championship with Geno Smith. We really believe that and can’t wait to get back to work with him.” With the introduction of new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, it seems Smith will play a vital role in the team’s plans moving forward. Although the long-term outlook for Smith with the Seahawks may still be in question, it is clear that he will be the team’s leader next season.
