The NBA is striving to adapt to the rise of legalized sports gambling, which has only been in the U.S. markets for a few years. With the responsibility of maintaining game integrity resting on the leagues, any violations of gambling policies are met with swift and severe consequences. In 2024, former NBA player Jontay Porter faced a lifetime ban for attempting to manipulate his player props. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver stated, “There is nothing more important than protecting the integrity of NBA competition for our fans, our teams, and everyone associated with our sport, which is why Jontay Porter’s blatant violations of our game rules are being met with the most severe punishment” said at the time.
Now, it seems Silver may have to impose judgment once more. “BREAKING: Federal prosecutors are investigating whether Terry Rozier manipulated his performance in 2023 as part of an illegal sports betting scheme,” reported Legion Hoops on Thursday.

Fans took to social media to express their reactions to the shocking news, with one fan stating, “If he was stat padding he’s good in my hood. If he was selling on his o/u, throw the book at him.” Another remarked, “If he did something wrong it had to be betting on himself because dude always looks to be playing hard.” A third user added, “What? I’m shocked. Said no one. If you think it’s not happening in every sport from college on up, you are sleepwalking. High school is next if not already.”
It will be interesting to see the outcome of this investigation.
