‘The Sports Guy’ may have another NBA and/or sports media bombshell in store. Bill Simmons, who’s been ahead of the curve on numerous NBA media rights scoops, recently dropped an intriguing nugget on his podcast regarding a potential shake-up in the Philadelphia 76ers’ front office.
He suggests there is credible “buzz” that Bob Myers, now an NBA analyst for ESPN, could be returning to a front office role, possibly replacing Daryl Morey, whom Simmons labeled as a “fall guy.” According to Simmons, “There’s been some Bob Myers Philly buzz.” This isn’t the first mention of Myers; his colleague Stephen A. Smith has advocated for his inclusion in the Los Angeles Lakers. The growing interest in Myers stems not only from his recognition as the architect of the Golden State Warriors dynasty but also from his ties to Philadelphia’s ownership group.

Simmons elaborated on Myers’ connections, noting, “You know, Bob Myers helped Washington with the football team, right? He was on that advisory committee. I just feel like he’s looming with the Sixers thing — and I don’t think I’m alone. There’s been some Bob Myers-Philly buzz that I think has been building because I think he had a good experience with Josh Harris.” Myers has previously played a behind-the-scenes role with 76ers and Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris, aiding in the search for a new head coach and head of football operations last offseason, efforts that have contributed to Washington’s current success as they approach their first Super Bowl appearance in decades.
While fans may be hesitant toward Myers if Washington, led by Harris, succeeds at Philadelphia’s expense, they may quickly warm up to him if he’s the one tasked with revitalizing a struggling franchise. “I think Bob Myers is lurking, in general,” Simmons added. “If there is a fall guy, it’s gonna be Nick Nurse and Daryl Morey. One thing that Bob Myers does? Builds the culture. That’s what he was famous for with the Warriors, and you bring him into Philly. If it gets really bad, I just wouldn’t be surprised.” With the 76ers facing challenges under Morey’s leadership, a fresh perspective may indeed be essential. Myers’ championship experience could be exactly what this franchise needs to regain its footing and relevance, particularly given his relationship with Harris. If the “buzz” Simmons is sensing holds true, he might have once again anticipated a significant NBA transition before it occurs.
