The New York Jets and their new leadership appear considerably less preoccupied with Aaron Rodgers than he is with them. Last week, Rodgers made his first public statements since discovering that the new Jets head coach, Aaron Glenn, and general manager, Darren Mougey, were not interested in having him return next season. During an extensive appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers referred to the Jets as a “debacle” and expressed that they showed a lack of “ample amount of respect” in how they managed the split.
Rodgers took issue with the fact that he “flew across the country on my own dime” to meet with the new leadership, only to find out they had already chosen a different direction at quarterback. While he acknowledged the possibility of a divorce, it was evident he was unhappy with the Jets’ swift decision-making.
On Monday morning, Mougey addressed the media and was questioned about Rodgers’ remarks regarding their parting. Instead of disputing the claim or issuing an apology, the Jets’ general manager opted for a different approach by giving Aaron Rodgers the silent treatment.
Darren Mougey is asked about Aaron Rodgers’ comments on his final meeting with the Jets:

“I understand the question and I addressed that at the combine,” Mougey remarked when asked about Rodgers’ comments. “But today I just want to talk about the draft and Jets players.” When a follow-up inquiry was posed regarding any regrets about the meeting with Rodgers, Mougey had his “On to Cincinnati” moment, replying, “I understand the question, but I’m just going to talk about the draft and current Jets players.”
Two months post-separation from Rodgers, it is the Jets who seem to be on a more favorable path toward moving forward. This is a notable shift considering the historical lack of evidence supporting the idea that the Jets could be the more stable partner in a break-up with any Hall-of-Fame quarterback. With every new regime, the Jets have claimed that “this leadership will be different.” While it’s uncertain if Glenn and Mougey will lead to different outcomes, they have already demonstrated a significant departure from the previous management in their handling of Aaron Rodgers.
