The Philadelphia Flyers’ disappointing 2024-2025 season came to a merciful end Thursday in a 5-4 loss to the Buffalo Sabres, finishing at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Often, the team provided announcers Jim Jackson and Brian Boucher with minimal topics to discuss.
During the third period of the game, Jackson attempted to explain to his Luddite partner why Twitter has now become X and why the term “tweeting” is no longer used. He started by highlighting how the game’s outcome would affect Philadelphia’s final standings and next year’s draft lottery. “If the Flyers lose in regulation, they will finish fourth from the bottom. The game goes to overtime, it doesn’t matter who wins, they will finish sixth from the bottom. If they win in regulation, they’ll drop to seventh from the bottom. For those thinking about draft position, check out social media; a lot of people are concerned about that,” he stated.

Boucher, sounding surprised, replied, “They are?” to which Jackson responded, “Yeah, you’re not Mr. Social Media.” Boucher added, “I have a Twitter, but I’m not on Twitter, unfortunately.” Jackson then informed him that “Twitter doesn’t exist anymore,” clarifying that it’s now called X, although people still say “tweeting,” even though it’s now technically “posting.” “Doesn’t have the same ring as tweeting, does it?” Jackson quipped.
Boucher, confused, asked, “Why did it change?” Jackson chuckled, not wanting to delve into controversial topics. “I’m not going there,” he remarked. “Somebody bought Twitter. Named Elon Musk. They changed the name. All right, back to the hockey…” This was a wise choice, as any further discourse about Elon Musk had the potential to get weird quickly.
