Constructing ‘WrestleMania 41’: An Unfulfilled Journey

While WWE may be enjoying a peak moment, many fans agree that the buildup to this weekend’s WrestleMania 41 has felt somewhat lacking. This isn’t to say the event won’t impress or even surpass expectations, but it appears there’s less excitement surrounding this year’s show compared to recent WrestleManias.

Busted Open Radio host Dave LaGreca echoed this sentiment during his upcoming appearance on the Awful Announcing Podcast. He highlighted that despite being held in Las Vegas, this year’s “Showcase of the Immortals” lacks the usual flair, attributing it to the underwhelming nature of the undercard. “I just think the value of every match on the show,” LaGreca explained when asked by Brandon Contes about the deficiencies in this year’s buildup. “It’s very top-heavy. They’ve concentrated heavily on the main event matches rather than giving each fight equal attention. Some matches haven’t really had a compelling story or build.”

He added, “I mean, you can’t argue with the main events. Cody [Rhodes] and [John] Cena? No problem there. The triple threat with Roman [Reigns], CM Punk, and Seth [Rollins]? Fantastic. Maybe even on accident, Tiffany [Stratton] and Charlotte [Flair]. But some other matches? I don’t see much of a storyline leading into them.”

LaGreca acknowledged that another reason for the perceived lack of excitement this year could be the high standard set by last year’s WrestleMania 40, regarded as one of the finest WrestleManias. He noted, however, that once you’re in Vegas at WrestleMania, you tend to forget these concerns, as the focus shifts to the event itself.
