Travis Kelce, known for his generosity and charitable work in the Kansas City community, addressed a recent “nonsense” story that falsely claimed details about his charitable efforts on his New Heights podcast. Last month, the Daily Mail published an article with the headline, “Revealed: Travis Kelce’s stunning $3.3 million gesture to combat homelessness in Kansas City,” inaccurately stating that the NFL star had made a large donation to the charity Foster Love to establish a 6,500-square-foot facility for homeless youth.
While many, including ESPN’s Pat McAfee, praised Kelce for his supposed generosity, he felt it necessary to clarify the situation. “I gotta make a little statement in the ‘Don’t believe everything you read kids’ category,” he said. “Some false claims were thrown out there suggesting I was doing something in the community that I was not. I’m not even going to talk about it specifically; I don’t want to bring any more attention to that whole nonsense and article.” He emphasized, “But if you ever want to know exactly what I’m doing in the community, just go to 87 & Running.org, referring to my non-profit organization. We’re always trying to get involved in the Kansas City and Cleveland communities, but this time, I wasn’t doing what was falsely claimed by social channels or outlets.”
Kelce expressed his gratitude to McAfee for his support, despite the false news. “So just wanted to set the record straight; appreciate everybody for always trying to show—especially Pat McAfee, he’s always trying to look out for the guys and women in the sports world,” Kelce added.
After the Daily Mail published their initial report, several outlets aggregated the story, raising the question: How could the Daily Mail get it so wrong? Foster Love, a nationwide non-profit based in California, initially posted a social media announcement and shared a story on its website regarding a donation from Kelce, though both the social media post and website story have since been deleted.
