Greg Olsen Receives Another Emmy Nomination, While Tom Brady Misses Out

Since Fox announced the demotion of NFL color commentator Greg Olsen to its No. 2 booth in favor of its $375 million hire, Tom Brady, Olsen has not only called a Super Bowl but also won an Emmy. Therefore, it was no surprise when the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced its 2025 nominees, once again including Olsen’s name for Outstanding Event Analyst.

However, a notable surprise, which could escalate tensions at Fox Sports, was the absence of Brady’s name from the list. Despite the attention surrounding Brady’s joining Fox’s top NFL booth with Kevin Burkhardt in 2024, he was considered somewhat disappointing as a top analyst. In contrast, Olsen’s analysis shone through multiple times during the NFL season, culminating in an opportunity to be part of Netflix’s inaugural Christmas Day broadcast.

“Honored to be nominated for my 4th consecutive (Emmy),” Olsen wrote on X. “Congrats to everyone nominated. Some big time names!!”

By season’s end, Olsen appeared to openly challenge Fox management before tempering his critiques. In Week 17, he posted commentary that contradicted Brady on the latter’s game performance, labeling it “very hard” to watch the postseason from home. He even hinted at the possibility of leaving for another network, stating his chances at Fox were “a non-factor.” If the 2024-25 Awful Announcing NFL announcer rankings are any indication, Olsen stands out as the preferred NFL analyst at Fox. From the time Fox hired Brady, they indicated their priorities clearly—allowing Olsen to call Super Bowl LVII and win an Emmy while eagerly anticipating Brady’s arrival.
