With the NBA’s new media rights deal set to commence next season, Zach Lowe might make his return to television as an analyst. After being unexpectedly laid off by ESPN prior to the current NBA season, Lowe joined The Ringer in late March. According to a report by Michael McCarthy from Front Office Sports, his roles as a podcaster and writer for The Ringer do not prevent him from exploring television opportunities with one of the NBA’s partners.
“Lowe’s new deal with The Ringer is non-exclusive, a source tells Front Office Sports, meaning Lowe is still free to pursue new TV or streaming gigs outside The Ringer and parent company Spotify,” McCarthy noted. “As a writer, podcaster, and analyst, Lowe may have various media prospects ahead of him. With its landmark 11-year, $77 billion media-rights agreement, the NBA is adding fresh partners like Amazon Prime Video and NBC Sports next season alongside existing ones, ESPN (U.S.) and TNT Sports (international).” He further mentioned others in sports media—such as Charissa Thompson (Fox Sports, Prime), Kirk Herbstreit (ESPN, Prime), and Michael Strahan (ABC, Fox)—who work across different platforms.
If a new network partner were to bring Lowe onboard, it would signal a commitment to authentic NBA commentary, a focus his previous employer often neglected. Hiring someone recognized as one of the top NBA writers would not only enhance coverage but also reassure fans about how the new partners will address the league in the 2025-26 season and beyond.
