Geno Smith and Pete Carroll Enthusiastic About Future with the Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders surprised the NFL world by acquiring former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, marking a reunion with Raiders head coach Pete Carroll. The two previously worked together for two seasons during Carroll’s tenure with the Seahawks, and both expressed optimism during Smith’s introductory press conference on Monday about their potential collaboration.

“There is unfinished business,” Smith stated regarding their shared goals, according to Pro Football Talk. “Coach Carroll is a significant part of my story. He provided me an opportunity when few others would, recognizing the hard work I put in and the efforts behind the scenes that led to this moment. Playing for him and being part of this organization means everything to my family and me. I told him I’d run through a wall for him, and he knows that.” Smith also emphasized that Carroll exemplifies the qualities a player seeks in a head coach, noting, “He’s very relatable and treats all of his players like his own kids. He treats us like men, allows us to make decisions, and encourages us to be ourselves. His legendary status and track record speak for themselves. He competes every single day, which is something I truly appreciate about him.”

Carroll, in turn, expressed enthusiasm about working with Smith again, stating, “He’s going to bring us great stability and belief in the kinds of things that we stand for,” according to PFT. “His stellar habits, work ethic, and perspective on the game align perfectly with our philosophy. He’ll represent us magnificently, providing instant stability in a crucial position. My history with G and understanding of how to help him excel will be beneficial, as he knows how to bring out the best in our system and embodies the competitiveness we value.”

If Carroll and Smith can replicate their successful collaboration in Seattle, the Raiders have every reason to believe they can make a playoff return in their first season together.
