The Colorado Buffaloes held their pro day on Friday, showcasing presumptive first-round NFL draft picks Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders. Hunter, a dual-threat talent who won the Heisman Trophy this past season, is widely regarded as a surefire Top 5 selection, while the future of quarterback Sanders remains uncertain.
Sanders, like his father Deion Sanders, is undeniably talented but has a flashy and braggadocious demeanor that has ruffled some feathers. This led to an anonymous pre-draft report wherein an NFL coach labeled him as “arrogant,” igniting discussions within sports media about the treatment of Sanders compared to others in the league.

“Whatever franchise wants to change their franchise, then it’s no doubt who to go with. I’ve done it over and over and over. You’ll be a fool not to pick me,” he told ESPN. ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky, during the NFL Live coverage of the Colorado workouts, noted a perceived double standard in the assessment of Sanders compared to players like Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield. He stated, “We can’t praise Baker Mayfield and fall in love with Baker Mayfield because of his charisma, cockiness, his self-belief and then kind of view it differently with Shedeur.”

Orlovsky appreciated Sanders’ leadership when he explained, “There were some teammates of mine that didn’t get to go to the combine or didn’t get invited. I knew if I threw, all those teams would come from the NFL, and his teammates would have the necessary eyes.” Orlovsky noted some preliminary concerns regarding Sanders’ actual quarterback play, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the player’s abilities rather than perception.
