Last week, Bruce Drennan stirred up interest when he claimed that the Cleveland Browns were in talks with the Dallas Cowboys to trade for Dak Prescott. Despite some NFL insiders and media members dismissing his report, Drennan remains resolute.
On Thursday’s episode of the Bruce Drennan Show, he stated, “I stand by the statement that I laid out on you last week. This could come about. Dallas and Cleveland would make a deal; Cleveland would get Dak Prescott, and Dallas would receive [Greg Newsome] and the 33rd pick, which is the first pick in the second round. I wasn’t informed of any additional details regarding the deal. All I know is it’s not the second [overall] pick in the draft. The Browns would keep that.”
Bruce has finally returned to the internet, and he is NOT backing down from the rumor he heard regarding Dak Prescott to the #Browns for #33 & Greg Newsome.

Notably, Drennan didn’t frame his initial report as a mere rumor or possibility. He cited a “pretty darn good source within the Browns organization” who indicated that negotiations between Cleveland and Dallas were underway. Nonetheless, NFL personalities like Jane Slater of NFL Network and Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com quickly dismissed the claim, highlighting the significant salary cap challenges both teams would face in executing such a trade.
Florios pointedly remarked, “It’s NOT happening. It can’t happen… Even without the restructuring, it would have been a very remote possibility. With the restructuring, it’s an impossibility. Anyone suggesting otherwise is exposing their complete lack of knowledge or understanding regarding the way NFL contracts work.”
Nevertheless, Drennan insists on his stance, despite the ongoing uncertainty regarding the feasibility of this trade from a salary cap perspective. It’s intriguing that he seems to be the only member of the media with insight into a trade of this scale. As time progresses, we will see who ultimately appears to be the “stupid idiot” in this situation.
