Dak Prescott may have one of the most untradeable contracts in the NFL, yet that hasn’t deterred LeSean ‘Shady’ McCoy or a Cleveland radio host from speculating about it. This concept has been debunked multiple times, yet the cycle continues, especially as the Cowboys trade for quarterbacks that the media often values more highly than NFL teams do. This was evident with the acquisition of Trey Lance and is now resurfacing after the Cowboys traded for Joe Milton III.
Yes, that Joe Milton — the same quarterback whom Colin Cowherd once suggested could contend with Drake Maye for the Patriots’ starting job, a claim that never materialized. Few players have received as much offseason buzz from a single game as Milton, who wrapped up the season with a 23-16 victory over Buffalo, completing 22 of 29 passes (75.9%) for 241 yards and a touchdown. Although Milton has always showcased arm talent capable of launching the ball 80 yards, he has yet to put it all together. Nonetheless, he’s viewed as a potential NFL quarterback, and McCoy is just the latest to jump on that bandwagon. While he has potential, McCoy took it a step further.
On Thursday’s The Facility, McCoy urged Dak Prescott to “find a realtor” following the trade announcement, framing it as something more significant than just Dallas looking to fill Cooper Rush’s spot on the depth chart. “I’ll just be honest, man, listen, if Dak Prescott has that [inaudible] he’s always had going into that next year, right? Dak, find a realtor,” said McCoy. “Because Joe Milton got talent — he can play. And I’ll say this, y’all laughing, but I’ve seen other quarterbacks get paid a lot of money and then move on from them … We’ve seen it happen.”

While some in sports media anticipated similar reactions to the trade with Lance, that did not occur. We’ve seen this trend with McCoy and other former players on The Facility before. However, this isn’t a criticism of the show, as it aims to offer a different approach than First Take or Undisputed. Emmanuel Acho presented The Facility as a “beautiful alternative” to such shows, but perhaps a “refreshing alternative” is a more fitting description.
The statements from McCoy feel less like genuine analysis and more like an attempt at creating a sensational hot take. There is a distinct line between bold predictions and outright fantasy; suggesting Prescott should be house hunting due to the presence of a former seventh-round pick not named Brock Purdy crosses firmly into the latter category. While Milton may possess the tools to develop into something more, Dallas did not trade for its future quarterback; it merely replaced a backup.
McCoy, however, seems to understand the dynamics at play. Even if Milton picks up Brian Schottenheimer’s playbook by the end of training camp, he is not stepping into Prescott’s shoes anytime soon.
