The situation unfolding with the A’s this year is utterly disgraceful, and it seems the franchise’s new press accommodations have only exacerbated the issue. The Athletics, who previously called Oakland, California home, have moved to Sacramento for this season before their eventual relocation to Las Vegas. The organization continues its trend of unfortunate blunders, highlighted this time by their subpar press conference setup which has drawn widespread attention on social media.
Today, the Vegas-bound franchise will hold its “home” opener against the Chicago Cubs at Sutter Health Park, the venue for the San Francisco Giants’ Triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats. This marks the press’s first opportunity to see how covering the team will look this season, and the impression is anything but positive. Ben Ross, a sports reporter for the local San Francisco affiliate KRON, took to social media on Monday to showcase the inadequate accommodations.

If you find yourself thinking, “Hey, that looks familiar!”, you’re onto something. Similar setups are available at Home Depot for approximately $6,000. To make matters worse, the A’s are not being discreet about their impending move; their press conference backdrop prominently features Las Vegas alongside the A’s logo.
The folks (or at least the media) in Sacramento want to embrace the A’s so bad, only to be greeted with this logo in very prominent places.

This unfortunate reality looms over those tasked with covering the team this season, although there won’t be many of them anyway.
