The Pittsburgh Steelers remain uncertain about who will be the starting quarterback for the 2025 season. While they are still in the running for Aaron Rodgers, there are reports suggesting that Rodgers might consider retirement.
The team has already re-signed veteran quarterback Mason Rudolph, bringing him back to the franchise that initially selected him from Oklahoma State University. Most fans and analysts believed the Steelers brought Rudolph back to serve as a backup; however, according to Pro Football Talk, that might not be the case. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin expressed that he would be “comfortable” having Rudolph as the starter, stating, “That’s why we brought him back. I’m comfortable with that. We’ve been there before. He’s a very capable guy.”
Tomlin referenced the growth experienced during prior interactions, acknowledging, “Anytime you experience something with somebody, there’s growth… Certainly, the way he smiled in the face of adversity and delivered for us was significant, but not that I was shocked by it or didn’t think it was within his framework or capabilities. We’re excited about having him back, not only in terms of his talents but the guy that he is. He’s a really good teammate and a really good football guy.”
Steelers general manager Omar Khan also voiced support for Rudolph, mentioning, “We had a need at the position, as you guys know, and he was available and had an interest in coming back. Our experience with Mason’s been relatively positive, so he made sense.” It will be interesting to see what role Rudolph will play with the team.
